Someone Snatched My Security Blanket!

You never really know how close you are to the end of your tether until someone or something starts hacking away at it.  To the outside world it may seem like an overreaction to something innocuous, unimportant or even frivolous; but for those of us hanging from that tiny thread, it is the whole world – or at least the only sliver of the world in which we feel we can survive in. “The Music Is Outside…”

A couple of posts back I dissected an article from The Guardian that claimed that there are no true outsiders, just people faking for the coolness factor. The TLDR version is that there ARE true outsiders but we are invisible to the eyes of the author of the piece.

Anyway, a couple of videos have popped up on my Facebook feed in the last few days that perfectly illustrate both the fuller meaning of outsider status and the ableism that led the author to forget or ignore the fact that we do exist. Continue reading ““The Music Is Outside…””

Subnormality

I know, I know I shared a video last week (and I promise I’ll get back to writing full articles soon!) but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t post this. Continue reading “Subnormality”

A Coffee Cup Full Of Paint

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that this has been, hands down, the most surreal week of my life. For those of you who may not know, I’m a Brit: London born and raised. So it would be slightly disingenuous for me to pretend that the seismic shift in the UK’s global position didn’t occur and that it has had zero effect on me. But this post isn’t actually about politics: it’s about art. Art as therapy. Art as a coping mechanism. Continue reading “A Coffee Cup Full Of Paint”

This Coffee Was Brewed In The Twilight Zone

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I have a lot of unusual and extremely vivid dreams. I would normally just share them with the people around me, but because this one occurred at the weekend, I thought I would allow it to be disseminated a little further.

Before I start I must confess that I do read and watch a helluva lot of science-fiction; so make of this what you will… Continue reading “This Coffee Was Brewed In The Twilight Zone”

This Coffee Should Be Lemonade

If we were having coffee I’d say that the cliché ‘sometimes the only way out is through’ is probably more of a truism than I would have liked to admit.  I would also ask you why you’re drinking a hot beverage when it finally feels like summer has arrived… Continue reading “This Coffee Should Be Lemonade”
